STARFRUIT

This beautiful fruit is commonly grown in Asian countries like China, Indian and Philippines. It is packed with fiber and vitamin C while still being low in calories.  With a sweet and sour combination flavor, you will love it!

How to peel it?

Starfruit does not require to be peeled. Only washed thoroughly and cut into slices.  You can also remove the seeds if preferred. 

How to eat it?

It can be eaten raw or grilled.

STARFRUIT CHIPS

This is a sweet and simple dessert or snack for everyone

Ingredients:

  • 2 large starfruit
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 inch piece of ginger (optional)
  • cinnamon, sugar or sea salt for sprinkling
 

Instructions:

  • Heat the oven 200 F
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a baking mat
  • Slice the starfruit in even thin slices
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, dissolve sugar in water and add the ginger if using. Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat, add the starfruit, and simmer for a few minutes, remove it from heat and let it sit for 20 minutes
  • Place the slices of starfruit into the baking sheet
  • Bake the slices until dry and crispy (1 hour or more)
  • Sprinkle cinnamon sugar or sea salt if wanted, and enjoy. 
 

STARFRUIT JUICE

Enjoy starfruit juice and its rich vitamins and nutrients!

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 medium starfruits
  • 1 small piece of ginger
  • Half a lime
  • Sugar to taste
 

Instructions: 

  • Chop the clean starfruit and ginger into smaller pieces
  • Add these pieces into a blender and water to cover the fruit. Blend until smooth and strain the juice with a sieve.
  • Use sugar as a sweetener if you prefer, and add the lime juice if you want a more acid flavor.
